Background:
Founded in 1927 by the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Mary, the school joined the state sector in 1950 and became a comprehensive in 1978. Two major capital building projects since 2003: new sixth-form block and sports hall; neighbouring Grade II listed chapel bought by school in 2005 for renovation and conversion for school and community. In addition to a full range of national curriculum subjects, the school offers classics, child development, drama, business studies and economics. All pupils study Italian and French for at least two years and Latin for at least one year. Specialist business and enterprise college status from September 2005. Before-school care, from 8am; after-school care, until 6pm. Over-subscribed, with 1.7 applications per place. Sportsmark; Investor in People status; DfES achievement award. Ethos: 'Strong sense of community and aim to to achieve excellence in all our pursuits'.
