Background:

Our Lady of Ransom school was founded in 1966 by the Roman Catholic Parish of Rayleigh and the Sisters of Mercy, Southern Province, Ireland. It was founded in order to provide a Catholic primary education for children of local Catholic families. Places are offered to children from the neighbouring Catholic parish of Wickford and to Christians of other demoninations and those who desire a religious education for their children. The school is housed in a bright, modern building set in 'spacious' grounds, which include a playing field, swimming pool, infant play area and a playground garden. Recently the school has converted a stage area into a modern computer suite. Last season's sporting successes included winning the district netball league and winning both the district and the diocesan swimming galas. The school maintains 'strong' links with the Catholic parishes from which most of its pupils come from. It is supported by an 'active and successful' Parents' Association. The school'supports a number of Catholic and national charities.
