Background:

The William de Ferrers is an 11 to 18 co-educational foundation comprehensive school. The school is housed in a purpose-built building opened in 1982 but expanded until September 1989 at which time it became fully operational. The accommodation is set in extensive grounds with science laboratories, computer rooms, computerised business studies suite, drama studio and supportive education suite and electronics laboratory. The sports facilities of the school include extensive playing fields, large sports hall, fitness suite, gymnasiums and six-lane indoor heated 25-metre swimming pool. Wide ranges of extra-curricular activities are offered at lunchtime and after-school. The school offers activities including: sports, debating society, art club, computer club, chess club, Christian union, science club, drama, school band, school choir. The school aims to provide all pupils with the means to achieve their maximum potential and to develop individual responsibility and respect for the rights of others.
