Background:
Thomas Willingale School originally opened as separate infant and junior schools in 1957. These were combined in 1968 and the buildings were refurbished and re-clad in 1989. The school is currently over-subscribed. In 1999 a new Key Stage 2 department and a new information technology (IT) suite and library were built. The new building contains eight new classrooms, an IT room, a music room, and fiction and non-fiction libraries. The site contains a 'large' hard play area, a playing field, wild area and courtyard garden. The school's extra-curricular activities include district level football, netball, cross country running athletics and swimming teams, a band and choir. Educational visits also take place and provide a focus for learning. Staff and parents work together to raise funds for the school and parent helpers in school are a 'valuable' resource. The school aims to make all school members feel 'secure and confident' in their environment.
