Background:
Saffron Walden County High School was founded in 1951 as one of first post-war secondary schools. It is situated on the western edge of Saffron Walden, next to Audley End House. The buildings have been regularly extended and improved, and a new sports centre was opened in 1990. The school offers GCSE Latin, there is a school farm, there are regular concerts and musicals, and there is a full Saturday-morning sports fixture list. The sixth form also has a major role in charitable work. Specialist technology college status. Over-subscribed, with 1.9 applications per place. Artsmark Gold (2004); Sportsmark Gold (2005); Investor in People status (2005); DfES achievement award (2003); Leading Edge status (2002); training school status (2002).
