Background:

Originally opened in 1992 to serve the residents of the new Chafford Hundred Housing Development near Lakeside, growth in numbers yielded an extension to the school's building four years later. It now comprises 11 classrooms, a craft area with kiln, a 'well-equipped' physical education hall, an audio visual room, a computer suite, and a medical and special needs room. In addition, three more classrooms and a second hall have been added. The curriculum is complemented with visits to museums and art galleries, and through working with authors, artists and performers, who open the children's eyes to different cultures. The school values individuality within an atmosphere of 'confidence and enthusiasm'. Children with learning difficulties can be enrolled in special support programmes and aided by outside sources. There are also provisions for 'providing opportunities for more able pupils'. Outside the curriculum, children can receive individual music tuition. Environmental concerns are important to the school, and help from the local community has produced a pond and wildlife area in the 'extensive' grounds, a project that was runner up in the Essex Amenity Awards. Fundraising for a variety of charities is encouraged as a central part of school life, particularly during Christmas celebrations. The school are keen for parents to maintain close contact with teachers and to follow their child's progress.
