Background:
Originally built in 1906, with a modern extension added in 1975, the school is situated in north-east Colchester. It offers large playgrounds, a field, wild area, pond and picnic table, while a central quadrangle provides a completely enclosed secure outdoor area for the youngest children. In addition to 'consistently high' academic achievements, the school is also 'especially noted' for music, and its choir and orchestra occasionally perform outside the school. It has a new IT suite with a full-time IR support worker and all classroom computers have internet access. Pupils are encouraged to participate in sports, educational visits are encouraged and Year 6 children enjoy a residential journey to Holland. The school has regular community involvement and a strong parent-teacher association. Myland is over subscribed and receives 1.3 applicants for every place.
