Background:
Great Clacton Junior School is situated in a residential area of Clacton-on-Sea known as Great Clacton, and serves a large and varied area. Previously known as Burrsville Junior School, the school became Grant Maintained in 1997, and became Great Clacton Junior School in September 2000. The building is a two-storey construction, with four large classrooms on the upper floor, and four on the ground floor, which also houses the ICT suite, hall and library. There is a further purpose built Year 6 block of three classrooms outside, which the Governing Body paid for largely from their savings. This building also contains a special needs teaching and resource area. The school is currently three form entry, with a capacity of 330 pupils. The school has its own large field, with an environmental area. This is a nature reserve which runs adjacent to the school grounds. The school has full internet access in all classrooms through a network of computers, and also several standalone computers. Every room has at least two computers. A brand new ICT suite was opened in spring 2003, containing 16 workstations linked to a dedicated new server. Last year, the school submitted proposals to Essex LEA to expand its capacity further, this time to 480 places. This was supported by the LEA, and has been confirmed to proceed, with building going on between Summer 2004 and the Summer of 2005. The status of the school is also changing at the same time to Church of England Voluntary Aided, with a proportion of places being allocated to worshippers within the Clacton-on-Sea area.
