Background:

The school is situated on beautiful grounds in a quiet residential area near the border of Rayleigh and the borough of Southend, close to farmland and woodland. The curriculum is broad, balanced and differentiated, taught through a child-centred approach. Learning thematically through an integrated topic approach is intended to help pupils gain a wider understanding of the world. Extra-curricular activities on offer change every term, but usually include various sporting and musical clubs, as well as opportunities to learn French or gardening. The active and successful Wyburns Parent Teacher Association was formed three years ago to raise funds for buying such things as computers and science equipment, and to organize fun events for children and adults. New parents will quickly be approached to get involved with helping. The school hosts an annual Bring your dad to school day to improve boys academic performance. They also maintain a high profile in the community, and use local natural features extensively to complement topics being studied. Children are encouraged to raise money for a variety of charities, and the school hopes that its pupils will be tolerant and understanding throughout their education.
