Background:
Founded in 1872, St John's moved into new buildings in 1972. These house seven well-equipped learning areas with a central area serving as a study centre with a suite of networked computers. The parent and teachers association has helped equip every class with its own computer. The school prides itself on 'developing the whole child' and aims to work with parents and carers to provide an environment in which children can enjoy learning and grow 'socially, spiritually, culturally and morally' as well as academically. Performing arts and creative arts are seen as 'important' aspects of the curriculum, and English and maths are also 'strong'. St John's is oversubscribed and receives two applicants for every place.
