Background:

Founded in 1865, close to Shenfield and to open country; close links to St Mary's Church; rector takes assemblies. Opted for aided status in 1954; part of original Victorian buildings house lower juniors. New infants' unit houses three classrooms and library; first-floor extension houses three upper-junior classrooms; also two playgrounds and field. Over-subscribed, with 1.5 applications per place. French offered as additional subject from Year 4. Range of extra-curricular clubs and activities: music, drama, ICT, mathematics investigation, netball, chess, design and technology, art, gardening, rounders, football. Field trips in Year 5 and 6; music lessons include violin, guitar, flute, keyboard, recorder, voice, and theory of music. School Council meetings once a month. 'The children are encouraged to be thoughtful members of the community by charity fundraising as well as participation in local and national events.'
