Background:
Close to the centre of Chelmsford, Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Primary School was founded in 1845. The grounds comprise a playing field, a playground with climbing apparatus, and a memorial garden. The building has recently undergone a three-year renovation and now has new classrooms, an extended hall, an environmental science building and an information technology room. All children learn French and older pupils visit Picardy every year. The school arranges professional coaching in tennis, soccer, rugby, cricket, gymnastics and hockey, and school teams have found success in borough and county competitions. All children learn the recorder and can choose to receive tuition in another instrument too. The Parent's Association raises funds, and has provided a pottery kiln, an adventure playground, stage lighting and computers. Over-subscribed, with two applications per place.
