Background:
St Alban's Catholic Primary School was opened on 17th April 1956 to serve the Catholic community in Harlow. A new nursery building, which won a Civic Award, opened in April 1998. The school was grant-maintained from 1994 until September 1999 when it switched to voluntary aided status. Improvements include a new roof, a new boiler and a nursery building, plus extensive classroom and hall refurbishment. The grounds have been extensively developed, and a new foundation stage outdoor area has been added. The majority of classrooms now have interactive white boards. There are strong community links with the parish, and the school supports many charirites. Last year children from the school performed at the Royal Festival Hall at the Ernest Read concert. Extra-curricular activites on offer include a chess club, recorders, netball, football, craft and art, track and field, cricket and rounders, and a reading club. The school's football team won the Harlow School League last year.
