Background:

The school was opened in 1926 as an 'all age' school, to serve the educational needs of the whole of South Benfleet. The school is housed in traditional buildings with most classrooms opening off corridors around a central enclosed quadrangle, used as an infant playground. The school is fortunate in having two halls, one with a stage, and a kitchen which provides 'high quality meals'. Major projects in the 1990s led to a number of improvements and created a special needs room, an art and craft room and a networked computer room. Adjacent to the junior playground is a large playing field and access to the recreation ground, while an outdoor heated swimming pool provided by the 'active and successful' parents' association allows all children to learn to swim. The early years play area includes a fitness trail. The school has now added purpose-built air conditioned 32 workstation information and communication technology suite, enabling a whole class to be taught together. A 'full range' of voluntary clubs is organised and competitive sports are encouraged, while the school choirs take part in local competitions and entertain in the community. This is a friendly, caring and family school.
