Background:

The R A Butler Schools opened in 1965 and caters for both boys and girls. The schools share one site, which is surrounded by mature trees and includes substantial playing fields. The buildings were completely refurbished during 1991 and 1992. The infant school has six classrooms, a special educational needs work room and a medical room in the main block arranged round a large hall which is well equipped with gymnastic apparatus. There is also a computer suite and a meeting room for the benefit of the children in both schools. The main junior school building is in two blocks of four rooms linked by a large central hall and has seven classrooms and a library. There is also a learner swimming pool. The extensive grounds provide ample space for many sporting activities as well as play and adventure areas. A diverse variety of activities are available including athletics, cricket, football, gymnastics, hockey, netball, rounders, rugby and short tennis. The school considers that all children are equally important as individuals and all should feel happy, confident, safe and secure.
