Background:
Opened in 1970, the school is situated in a mainly residential area of 'exceptional natural beauty and historical interest'. The school is proud of this and bases a great deal of learning on it. It occupies a 'modern, bright building set in a pleasant environment backing onto woodland' and enjoys a 'prestigious reputation' for academic results and good discipline. Netball, football, computer, chess and French are among the many extra-curricular activities offered, and pupils can take part in a wide spectrum of sports as a result of the school's links with Deanes Sports College. Kingston Primary fosters strong community links, including with the neighbouring church, playgroups and secondary schools. Pupils raise funds for charities such as Children in Distress, Comic Relief, Fair Havens Hospice, NSPCC and NCH Action for Children. The school has a 'very active and enthusiastic' parent-teacher association which organises social functions and raises funds for projects such as the leasing of computers.
