Background:
First established in 1825, the school moved to its current site on 'beautiful grounds' overlooking Essex farmland in 1953. Since the present building was originally constructed for a capacity of only 80 pupils, two classes in the growing and over-subscribed school are now housed in temporary classrooms. Pupils are drawn from the village of Epping Green as well as beyond the catchment area, in particular from Epping. The school'sees itself as small enough to cherish each childs individuality, yet large enough to provide 'diverse and challenging experiences'. It looks to provide an education 'worthy of the Church of England'. Children with Special Educational Needs are helped by a specialist teaching assistant. A range of after-school clubs operate, including French, choir, dance and art as well as sporting clubs. Pupils also receive individual instrumental tuition. Links with the community, and the local church in particular, are 'strong'. The school often hosts community events in its own building and was used for the villages Millennium celebration. The school believes it has a 'true partnership' with parents, who help out regularly within the school. A 'strong and supportive' Parent Teacher Association raises funds, while the children are encouraged to raise money for a variety of charitable causes. 'The enormous strength of the school is its ethos, where children, staff and parents are valued as individuals'.
