Background:
St Pius X Catholic Primary School is a voluntary aided school for boys and girls. It was opened in 1955 as the second Roman Catholic Primary School serving the Chelmsford District. The building consists of seven individual classrooms, an assembly hall and a kitchen. A portable-type building has been added to the school to provide staffroom accommodation and a resources store. There is a learning centre at the centre of the school, which consists of a library and an ICT suite. The school works in partnership with the Diocese of Brentwood (Trustees) and Essex Country Council (LEA). The children are divided into classes according to age, but progression through the areas of the National Curriculum is based on individuals, with tailored programmes of work being provided for children with special educational needs. Classes are mainly taught by the class teacher.
