Background:

The school opened in 1978 and shortly afterwards moved to a permanent site in Butts Lane. The accommodation is modern and well resourced with eight large, well-equipped science labs, a suite of technology rooms around a quad, a large sports hall and four computer suites. Each subject area has its own suite of classrooms. The buildings are set in acres of land with extensive playing fields and a 'large' conservation area, and there are separate playgrounds for each year. The school recently opened a new purpose built modern languages block. It holds a national award for after-school activities including Russian, chess, cricket, technology and supported study. The school is proud of its 'excellent' primary liasons including choral speaking and joint staff training. The school aims to have a 'friendly and hardworking atmosphere, and a safe environment for its hard-working pupils'.
