The school was founded in 1894 and is housed in a Victorian Grade II listed building near the heart of Colchester. Facilities at the modern, forward-looking school include an information technology suite with eight computers and a new millennium library. The school parent-teacher association has raised money for projects such as an improved playground. Extra-curricular activities include football, dance, choir, gardening, French and gymnastics. The school council decides on a fundraising event each year, the proceeds of which go to a variety of charities. The school aims to provide challenging and stimulating environment.
