Background:

Gilbert Colvin is a two-form entry primary and nursery school to which children between the ages of 3 and 11 are admitted in accordance with the Borough's admissions policy. The building is a single storey structure set in mature grounds, which incorporate a main school, a sports field and a sports pavilion. A purpose built nursery was constructed on the site in 1992. The nursery has its own safety surface playground and conservation area, which are totally enclosed. The 52 nursery children receive part-time education in either the morning or afternoon session. The school offers children a range of extra-curricular activities both during and after the school day. Activities may be sporting, cultural, creative or academic, and are open to children of all ages. Activities include football, cricket, dance, art club, homework, thinking club, recorder club and choir.
