Background:
Cressing Primary School is situated in the village of Cressing on the outskirts of Braintree. It is surrounded on three sides by fields in a mainly rural area. The school was founded in 1900 and consists of three classrooms in the original building, a hall and toilets built in 1959, two demountable classrooms and a demountable dining room. Children at the school come from a variety of backgrounds with a higher than average intake of special needs pupils. Football and netball coaches are brought in from outside due to the small size of the school and music tuition in wind and brass instruments is offered through the Music for Schools programme. Cressing Primary has won the district netball and rounders rallies and come third in the swimming gala. There are also conker competitions and maypole dancing at the appropriate time of year. The headmaster writes an article for the parish magazine three or four time a year and members of the local community help out at the school. Parents can volunteer for activities such as weeding and painting or support in the classroom or on visits. Charity and fundraising are seen as important by the school and children are given many opportunities to contribute.
