Background:

Opened in 1958, the school is housed in a two-storey building with 16 traditional classrooms and two halls. There are specialist rooms for ICT, design and technology, instrumental teaching and SEN, in addition to a library with multimedia computer and internet connection. The grounds include a large playground, playing field and conservation area. Although classes are mixed ability, pupils are set by ability for mathematics throughout the school and for English in Years 5 and 6. The full range of National Curriculum subjects is taught and the school enjoys 'an enviable reputation for academic achievement, sport and music. Musical opportunities include an orchestra and choirs. There are close links with Buttsbury Infant School, from which most pupils transfer.Pupils in Year 4 attend an adventure weekend and pupils in Year 6 can participate in a five-day residential visit. An annual charity week is organised and run by pupils.
