Background:

Opened in 1969, the school has a pleasant rural feel. It is a bungalow-type building containing spacious classrooms, a large hall equipped for physical activities and additional working areas. The field and two hard playground areas have a football pitch, an athletics track, a netball pitch, high-jump area and a long-jump pit. There are two climbing frames and a slide for younger children. The internal site is well-equipped with a television, video-recorder, audio-visual equipment and multi-media computers in all classes. The site spans two acres and is surrounded by trees. Since 1994, the roof has been replaced, a double demountable classroom purchased, new windows installed, a new library built and a computer suite set up. Robert Drake's choir participates in local and national festivals. Other extra-curricular activities include football, chess club, netball, tennis, recorder, cross-stitch club and French club. Parents work with the school fund-raising group to arrange events throughout the year. Currently they are replacing school furniture and raising funds for new playground development. The school's general aims are to 'lay the foundations that are needed to ensure continuing interest and success in learning throughout life'.
