Background:
Founded in 1876, the school retains its original Victorian school house and classrooms in combination with mobile classrooms and extensions from the 1970s. The 'beautiful' grounds include an adventure playground, pond, environmental area and outdoor heated swimming pool. Since the new headteacher's appointment in January the school has been undergoing rapid changes and this is seen in the new ICT suite, and fiction and non-fiction libraries set up in 1999. Extra-curricular activities include folk-dancing, gardening, football, netball, rounders, athletics and choir. Roydon's aim is 'promoting academic excellence while emphasising individual development'. It has an 'active' involvement with the local village community, for example with the harvest, tree dressing and Church services. The school is oversubscribed.
